‽istis reclaims life (weekending September 3rd 2022)
In a week:
- when more than 1, 150 people have been killed in floods in Pakistan with 360 of them children (1);
- when in the UK a national broadcasting treasure for many (2) dies from the most common form of cancer for men (3) and a flag is lowered 25 years’ on in memory of ‘the people’s princess’ (4);
- when among the estimated number of deaths in the Ukraine / Russia war, the following is reported: ‘The United Nations has confirmed 5,663 civilian deaths and 8,055 injuries in Ukraine since Russia invaded its ex-Soviet neighbor’ (5);
- when the world still moves on from the first anniversary of the death of perhaps a particular most life-giving person is observed;
- when deaths ‘within 28 days of positive (Covid 19) test’ this week in the UK stand at 419 (6)...
‽istis wonders at the ordinary extraordariness of ‘life’ that in its living - every second, minute, hour, day or week- can seem to slip away so easily, so unnoticed, so frivolously, so wastefully – as every second, minute, hour, day or week we who remain are all a second, minute, hour, day or week nearer our own deaths and the nothing or something or everything that may follow...
And ‽istis resolves to make the most of things (and to continue to try to work out what that looks and sounds like), before it is (perhaps, possibly, maybe taken for granted) too late‽
