‽istis ponders
directions and roads less-travelled (weekending June 8th 2024)
This week ‽istis has been pondering itineraries, directions and roads
less-travelled:
‽ the search for
missing father, husband, friend to many no doubt, Doctor and presenter of radio
and television programmes aimed to help us perhaps live better, longer –
continues on and around a small Greek island[i]
‽ a seemingly
beleaguered and campaign-gaffe-prone[ii] Prime
Minister seeking re-election leaves the beaches of Normandy, veteran veterans
and world leaders at the Second World War ‘D-Day 80’ commemorations
‽ the ear-piece
directions of a motorbike test instructor[iii]
‽ sat-nav routes to maybe
‘safe’ constituencies that a ‘parachuted’ candidate hopes to represent even as
they get to know the streets, the issues, the people
And staying with the all-too familiar road of election campaigns,
there seem to have been plenty of stunts, more gaffes, unguarded words, ‘economical
verité’s’, questionable social media posts bobbing to the surface like pollution
in a Lake District mere, yet more gaffes, talkings-over, tetchiness, yet more
talkings-over and maybe far more heat than light…
And ‽istis
is left wondering what is the destination and whether it is
possible to get there, starting from here - however well the road is travelled[iv]?
Answers on a postcard (that may take a while
to arrive although rumours of all UK mail having to travel via Czechia [v]
may be exaggerated), please…

Surely, there is a splendid German word for this…?

Hopefully on roads more than less travelled, including the road to the statistic
where more people pass than fail (https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/news/2024/motorcycle-pass-rate-variations#:~:text=Nationally%2C%20the%20latest%20figures%20show,Module%202%20tests%20are%20passed.)
